Photo Kyiv Fair 2018

Photo Kyiv Fair 2018

Photo Kyiv Fair 2018 was at Chicago Central House from 1 to 4 November.

Photo Kyiv Fair founded in 2017, as an annual large-scale event, with big goals for the development of the photography market in Ukraine. The fair united foreign and Ukrainian galleries, international foundations and institutions, embassies and business companies that actively support the development of the country's cultural image on one platform.

5.6store represented the young Ukrainian author Valentine Bo with the project “Your next step would be to do the Transmission”. Valentine uses not only photography, but also 3D technology, video, sculpture, works with photogrammetry. The inspiration to create a photo project for the artist was the raelit’s ufological movement, which raises funds for the construction of an embassy to return aliens to Earth and human cloning. Besides that it practices meditation and provides various sexual services.

During the Photo Kyiv, was given  an international award for an innovative approach to the photo history of Bird in Flight Prize. And the winner was Valentin Bo.

The jury members were the founder of the independent publishing house Schilt Publishing Maarten Schilt, curator Hester Keizer, photographers Roger Ballen (who, by the way, gave Valentine the highest score), Donald Weber, Arnis Balkus, Sasha Kurmaz and Roman Pyatkovka. The short list includes photographers from Greece, Armenia, the Netherlands, USA, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. A total of 375 applications were submitted from 49 countries.

Special thanks to the organizers, especially Anna Savitskaya, Ivanna Bertrand and Dima Bogachuk. Such events are very necessary for Ukraine.

Looking forward to the next meeting!
